Welcome to our Neighborhood
Located in the northern section of the city, Thoroughgood is between Chic’s Beach and the Lynnhaven River. It is a vibrant community with a great mix of young families and long time residents. It is an established community that was one of the first large scale custom home developments in Virginia Beach. Recently it has experienced a large turnover of homes to new buyers who are remodeling their properties and establishing a home here. With its location, established lots and strong community spirit, Thoroughgood is a destination neighborhood. Thoroughgood and Thoroughgood Estates feature approximately 1,100 single-family homes.
Thoroughgood is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in North Virginia Beach. It is popular for its large treed lots, and quiet streets. The neighborhood was founded in 1957 and is composed of many well kept brick ranch homes as well as more exclusive waterfront houses. Close to the highways, the beach, and shopping, it is no wonder Thoroughgood is one of the best neighborhoods in Virginia Beach.
Thoroughgood Elementary The student population of the school is 625, and the school serves PK-5. At Thoroughgood Elem, 94% of students scored at or above the proficient level for reading. The school adjoins the neighborhood and is sought after by parents because it is an excellent Virginia Beach school and because it is within safe walking distance of virtually anywhere in the neighborhood.
Within the community is The Adam Thoroughgood House, a national historical landmark that is possibly the oldest surviving Colonial home in Virginia Beach. Believed to have been built in 1680, the house underwent a restoration in 1957 by the city. The Adam Thoroughgood House is open for guided tours and holds events throughout the year.
